Betts, Martin Praise State Aid for Bristol Preschool Child Care Center

HARTFORD
- State Representative Whit Betts (R-78) and State Senator Henri Martin (R-31) applauded the decision to award a $3,250,000 grant to assist with the Bristol Preschool Child Care Center‘s relocation to the former Jennings School.

The funds will be utilized to finance the relocation of the program, along with renovations and improvements to 17,000 square feet of space within the former school building and installation of a playground.  Work on the project will reportedly begin this fall.

“Today is a great day for the city of Bristol and the many children and families served by the Bristol Preschool Child Care Center,” said Rep. Betts. “This is an excellent program that has been a major provider of quality care and education for the youngest learners in our community.  Many worthy projects are in need of state funding assistance and that is why I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all of those involved in the process to secure the grant.  I would especially like to acknowledge State Representatives Betty Boukus (D-Plainville), and Livvy Floren (R-Greenwich), as well as the governor, for prioritizing the care and education of our children. This aid is an investment in our community and our future.”

This grant-in-aid will finance most of the project, along with an additional $750,000 from private fundraising and investment sources. The project has a total cost of $4 million.

“This is a wise investment in Bristol’s future,” Sen. Martin said.  “The Bristol Preschool Child Care Center can really be a model for the rest of the state.  This is a project that both Democrats and Republicans agree will benefit our city for many years to come.”

For more than 40 years, the Bristol Preschool Child Care Center has provided early childhood care and education for children ages 3-5. The planned expansion for child care includes three infant/toddler rooms and three preschool rooms.
